K.U.L.C.H.A. is back!
We are back! Heritage Education Network Belize is hosting our fourth annual Belize K.U.L.C.H.A. Symposium from October 23rd to 25th, 2024. During this three-day event, we will come to you virtually and host our live sessions! We will come together to present and discuss the impact, influence and effects of Belize’s Sustainable Orange Economy nationally and internationally.
K.U.L.C.H.A. stands for ‘Keeping Up with Language, Culture, Heritage and the Arts, which means that we will host a wide variety of presentations relating to 1) language, literature, and poetry, 2) culture and cultural heritage (tangible and intangible), archaeology, anthropology, 3) heritage and history (including natural heritage), and 4) fine and creative arts in Belize.
We welcome submissions from all interested individuals or groups in line with this year’s theme. We look forward to seeing you there!
How does your research fit?
What is the Orange Economy? “The creative economy (also known as the orange economy) is an evolving concept based on the contribution and potential of creative assets to contribute to economic growth and development. It embraces economic, cultural and social aspects interacting with technology, intellectual property and tourism objectives (United Nations Economist Network).”
With this in mind, this year’s overall theme aims to look a the creative economies of the past, present and future in order to understand ancient and modern examples to ensure a sustainable future.
We encourage presenters to connect and rethink their research in light of what it means to the creative sector. For example, in Archaeology one can talk about material culture creative influences or specific creative economies of the past as well as public archaeology and modern representation. Similarly, presentations can relate to the topic of economy, by presenting material culture, art and a creative product and its history or, for example, looking at intellectual property rights, tourism or trade.
